Your patient receives a tablet to answer questions about the medical condition, while waiting for the consultation
The intuitive interface guides your patient through the questions and collects all the answers
The results will be stored after calculation of the scores in the secure cloud
And directly presented to the physician in a clear overview
Presenting all the details of the complaint with the scores of various questionnaires
So that the physician can keep track of the treatment results in his/her group of patients
And discuss these results with the patient and colleagues
If we do this together: we can create a BIG DATA set, valuable for scientific research
To contribute to define optimal treatment plans for all of our patients, small or big, old or young… !
Our mission is obvious in times of limited finances, growing elderly population and the general interest in improvement of QALY. Since generations are getting older, we only can continue to improve life quality by a better use of financial recourses. We need to create a balance these two to improve society’s credibility to continue to deliver quality-based health care.
Technology has taken a huge leap in development, which provides us with the necessary tools to improve our targets and goals. Back-app is a humble translation between the possibilities of having an up-to-date data collection tool and creating knowledge for health care improvement. Physicians have not always been keen in registering their long-term results. But RCTs have opened up a window for discussion on treatment outcome and quality. However: now it’s time to make use of the technological possibilities in order to create a global platform on treatment results. This datasets guide us to improve our results, choose which therapies are worth the efforts and reflect on ourselves in accordance with the local, regional, national and even global standards. BIG DATA is the next step in research and so we have to embrace every state of the art technology to create these datasets and to let artificial intelligence help us to choose the right Treatment(s) for the right Patient at the right Moment. This should not be limited to research centres and University Hospitals, this should be available in a proper and non-time-consuming way for every single heath care professional, regardless whether they are well funded and/or supported by either a university or industry.
With the creation of Back-App, we would like to provide a convenient tool for every health-care specialist in order to make this happen.
The Back-app project was initiated in 2016. Our group of neurosurgeons was well aware of the raising problems in the health economic system. We have to make a choice for the right treatment paradigm for a specific patient with a high chance of success, instead of ‘trying’ multiple treatment paradigms in order to get to the desired result. A variety of treatments are available for the pathologies treated, but the paradigm remains an individual choice of the physician. So we believe in BIG DATA. Diversity and multifactor analysis can help us to sort out which treatment or treatment combinations might benefit patients at which time. However data acquisition can be a laborious task.
So a team of scientists, spine specialists and IT-specialists had the wish to fill in the gap between easy data collection and medicine and thereby providing a paradigm to answer these questions. In two years time we developed a tool in 3 major spine centres to get and effortless, patient driven data collection and to get some clues to answers about patient profiles and preferable treatments. In a time in which Apple, Android, Google, Youtube and many others developed a convenient world to create and share data collections, it seemed strange that medicine was still running behind. So we wanted to create an easy to use quality control tool in order to justify the need of certain therapies in spine pathology and neuromodulation. And even more: a tool, which might guide us to start the right treatment(s) at the right time for the right patient.
We had three main goals while developing our app:
In the past years we have spend time to make this happen and we made an easily accessible tool to make a start of a big data collection.
The back-app provides two options:
